“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”-Maya Angelou

I’ve been away from LinkedIn for just a short while. I recently started working on a large project that speaks to my heart and incorporates many things about history that I love to espouse. I’ve been operating within the domestic interior for quite some time, and it’s constantly evolving. As I moved into entrepreneurship, the pandemic hit, and I noticed so many of my friends trying to navigate working from home or taking a break. Due to the daily grind, they’d never been home and had no idea what was happening with their kids or themselves until they saw it firsthand. The great resignation is still a thing, and people will continue to migrate in and out of the workforce and redefine its landscape over the next 50–60 years.

IT CAN BE DIFFICULT. When I speak to young African American women and some men who are starting families and only have the internet as their role model. I made so many mistakes. I would have done a lot of things differently. I shed a lot of tears ( and I still do). Legacy building is challenging work. But when you examine the trajectory of African Americans historically, you may be encouraged and empowered to step out of your comfort zone.

Today, we have what our ancestors and grandparents did not have — the internet. We have cultural institutions and programs to provide access if you know where to look. Hopefully, through my inspired yet intermittent posts regarding resources, you can pass them on and take away something valuable. I believe in education as edification and your life being the loudest witness in the room. We all desire a “place” and I get that. But it was Dr. Maya Angelou who once said that her place is wherever she is. I’ve always taken that to mean I will be great in whatever I am called to do. Sometimes a job is just that, and your real work begins when you exit those doors. Perhaps a side hustle should be standard practice. You don’t have to sign your name in blood to accomplish the mission or the task — just focus and become more organized, productive, and efficient.
Lastly, whatever team you are called to, work with it. If it’s the right team, you should be stretched but not broken and challenged but not defeated. If you dislike your situation, Be faithful in your doing, obedient in your planning, and keep looking forward because your day is coming.
